# Who curates the Kings Closet closet.

The pieces on Kings Closet aren't algorithmically pulled from resale aggregators — they're curated by a standing advisory board of stylists, tailors, and editors. Here's who's on it and how the editorial calls actually get made.

## Why we run an advisory board at all.

A peer-to-peer rental platform without curation becomes a flea market in six months. The most-rented pieces tend to be safe, mass-market, and boring — and the long-tail of weird-but-good pieces never gets a chance to surface. We started the advisory board in our first year to fix exactly that: a standing panel that signs off on new brand additions, weighs in on inventory gaps, and tells us when something on the platform is wrong.

## Who's on the board.

Six standing members and three rotating guest editors. Members serve two-year terms and rotate so the perspective stays current. The current standing board:

- **Lead stylist · former GQ + Highsnobiety**: Calls the editorial direction of the homepage and curates the seasonal collections.
- **Master tailor · 35-year Savile Row veteran**: Inspects every new brand admission's tailoring and signs off on the cut and fabric.
- **Vintage specialist · former Christie's department head**: Reviews any pre-2010 piece on the platform and curates the vintage / archive sub-collection.
- **Streetwear editor · former Hypebeast senior**: Curates Saint Laurent, Acne, Raf, Margiela, and the runway-streetwear arm.
- **Footwear specialist · ex-Mr Porter**: Inspects every shoe brand and runs the seasonal footwear capsule.
- **Accessories curator · former JewelersBoard contributor**: Vets every watch, bag, jewelry, and eyewear listing on the platform.

## What the board actually does week-to-week.

Approves new brand admissions (we add 1–2 per quarter; the bar is high). Signs off on every editorial collection. Reviews any disputed authentication. Writes the seasonal lookbook and 'what's worth renting' picks that ship in the weekly newsletter.

The board does not approve individual pieces — that's the authentication team's job. But if a board member flags a piece, it's pulled within the hour and reviewed against the brand's archive.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I get advice from the board on what to rent?**
Yes — every Kings Closet rental over $200 retail unlocks a 15-minute call with a board-trained stylist (free, included with the rental).

**Can a lender be on the board?**
No — to keep editorial independence, board members can't be lenders on the platform. Members are paid an annual stipend instead.

**Are board picks just sponsored placements?**
No. The board doesn't see sponsorship deals (we don't run any) and board picks are decided independently of lender promotion. A lender can't pay to be a board pick.
